My grandfather's friend Nick Chelemen actually went by name of Chalamon. Apparently the Romanian spelling was corrupted when he came to America. The Orthodox priest entered his name as Chelemen on my father's baptismal record. However, Nick used Chalamon as his legal name.
Apparently there were a lot of variations based upon the phoenetics. Nick came into New York in 1911 and is listed as "Miklos Celemen" in the Ellis Island database.
Again, good luck with your search.
