I didn't see this message first.Ok, here is the story.Peter Lazarucz born in Band, 04 JAN 1903.His mother is Theodora (Teodora) Lazarucz. No father named. Her father is Vasilie Lazarutiu on the birth cert, and Rebeca (Horgos?)her mother. There were other children, girls. After Peter was born, Theodora married a man named Lajos Venig, also from Band, a shoemaker.Peter was treated abusively by this man, and left to come to America, arriving in 1922.He came on the Muretania, leaving from South Hampton under the name of Peter Leserntz.I dont' know why the name was such.He went through Ellis Island, then on to South Bend Indiana where he stayed with his step-father's brother, Istvan Venig.I have no records for that, my father does I think.Anyway, he then came to Detroit Michigan area. The 1930 census shows his name as Peter Lanky.Later it becomes Lenkey. There was rumor that Peter's father was a Dr. Lenkey for whom his mother, Teodora worked. Thus the name changed to Lenkey. My grandfather believed Dr. Lenkey was Jewish. He was apparently murdered. My father has had his DNA done and he is not of Jewish decent. He married my grandmother, Jolan Szakacs. My Grandmother was from Zsidve (Jidvei) Romania. There were 13 children in the family I believe.Several brothers were killed in the war.Ilona(Helen), Mary, Rosa, Moses James (Jimmy) and Jolan lived in Detroit area.Helen changed her name to Cook. She is buried in Woodmere cemetery in Detroit.None of them had children. My grandfather moved in with them when he married Jolan. She arrived in USA in 1920 but we have no record yet as to where she came in. My father, Emil Lenkey, born 1928 in Detroit. His brother Peter Paul "Paulie" born in 1936.Peter, bought and sold property around the area and ran a Mobil gas station in Dearborn. My father, Emil, married Elisabeth Smith from Bay City Michigan.Peter and Jolan moved to California in the 40's or 50's I believe.Istvan, his uncle, also moved to California.Istvan married a Dora from Slovakia?Jolan visited Budapest twice, once with Peter and once by herself.Theodora and Lajos lived in Budapest and it is believed where they died.
Peter and Jolan were both naturalized citizens and had USA passports.I think that is a start.Let me know if you need something else.
Again, thank you for anything you can help with.
