My grandfather came to the US in late September 1913 at the age of 16 on the Imperator from Hamburg, Germany. He then went to Torrington, CT to stay with a second cousin. I believe the cousin's name was Elie Tescula. He left his parents Zahria and Ana, his sisters Ana and Sylvia, and a bother , Todor back in KisKukullosard. Today the village is called Soard.
In researching I found several Szakacs that left from the same village. You can search the Romania Gen Forum under my name and find the list of the Szakacs'. The list was given to me by Zlatica Beca and she found the persons on the Ellis Island database. I do not know if these were Romanian Socaciu's traveling under Hungarian names or actual Hungarians from the same village. Saxons, Hungarians, and Romanians all lived there together. If you want to have further contact, just email me directly. I would be delighted to share information with you. Perhaps , we can help each other.
