Donna, before anybody here will be able to assist you, you are going to have to tell us what the Gerak family's nationality was. As I explained, Bukovina's population was very mixed -- Romanians, Ukrainians, Germans, and Jews, with smaller numbers of Poles, Hungarians, and Russians. All of those nationalities were represented in the city of Czernowitz with the exception of Hungarians. If the Gerak family was Christian, then they obviously were not Jews. If they were devout Catholics, then they were not Russians, because Russians are of the Russian Orthodox faith. That leaves Romanians, Ukrainians, Germans, and Poles. So which of those was the Gerak family's nationality? The best way to answer that question is by the language they spoke. Did they speak Romanian, or did they speak Ukrainian, or did the speak German, or did they speak Polish? When talking about Bukovina, nobody here will be able to assist you without knowing what this family's nationality was.
