Hi Ron,
Yes, anything would be great! But I do have to tell you, I was lucky to go with ATS in the summer of 2006 on the trip to Siebenbergen. Unfortunately, I couldn't do as much walking around as I wanted to - I had ruptured my quad 4 months earlier and was mobile enough to go, but not mobile enough to wander. Was able to make it in to the church, but not up to the cemetery. I visited with a Sarah Theil, and unfortunately, I believe she has since passed away. I was able to understand her - 3 years HS German and 30 hours of college German, but that was 35 years ago - I just couldn't ask the questions as I would have liked to! I need to invest in Rosetta Stone software and practice up on the German. Apparently there is a descendant of one of my grandfather's sisters still living in the village, but they were out of town for the day. And I had asked Sarah to take a copy of my family tree and a letter to them - but I don't know if she was able to deliver it/or if they had the desire to respond.

My quest is to find out if the other Grell family in Fairview Park is related to my Grell line. They also have Fograschers in their line and they came from Keisd at the same time, and lived in the same area initially, but I believe their Michael Grell and my John Grell may be cousins and found some record of the two of them living on Bridge Avenue near 25th in 1905 or so. But they always said we weren't related - and I think that may have been the 'shunning' that I believe may have occurred. One of their descendants said they had an aunt and uncle who lived by the market, but they never visited because the uncle married a Catholic woman. My grandfather also married a Catholic woman (at least we all assume that because the story was that grandma was raised in a convent and was just short of becoming a nun).

I seriously need to get a letter off to the Bishop in Schassburg - as I was told that was where the town's birth and death records of that time period are located.

I also only found my grandfather as Janos Grell on Ellis Island in 1914. But I can't find his arrival anywhere earlier and/or later - don't know where he came in other times. I know he went back to Europe several times and sponsored people coming here. But no one in the family knows if he took wife and kids back with him on subsequent trips and I can't find records of them living IN Cleveland between 1914 and 1923. They purchased land on Bosworth in 1914, but I don't think the house was completed until 1924 or so and I do know that they lived in the house behind that property at some point(but probably as a rental) and also had lived near Memphis and Tiedeman and worked a farm there (also probably a rental). And I can't find any directory records of them either (census too - grandpa just bucked the system any chance he could and subsequently lost that house). It will be interesting to see if he was recorded in the 1940 census - but I doubt it!

Do you know of any records that had the names of the sponsors and who they sponsored locally? I would think there would be something, somewhere, but I don't know where to start. Of course, there may be some things available now, but as of 4 years ago, I exhausted my searches then and haven't pursued it again lately. So, I will anxiously await your response!

Thanks in advance!
