Rudar/Ludar/Ursari gypsies in Romania. Lazarovic Surname.
Hi,
I am trying to research my grat grandfather. He was a Luar gypsy who was born in Romania. He travelled extensivley thoughout his life and had an article written about him in The Journal of The Gypsy Lore Society. It is from that artcle that i know what i do about him.
He was born just ouside of Budapest around 1875. His name was Pierre Lazarovic. I know that he travelled with his parents, stopping at the 'Traditional' stopping grounds.
He went to the US sometime around 1887 with his cousins, Who's surname was Georgeovic.
He returned to Europe and met and married his wife Jeca (That may be spelt incorrect, I only have it written on one record). I believe her surname was probably Stankovic.
She was also a Ludar gypsy, Born around 1877, possibly in Vienna.
They had four children, Kosta (my grandfather) born c1894, Petra born c1900, Leatsa born c1906 and Stanko born 1907. Theyent back to the Us and thravelled down to South America before returning to Europe and settling in England around 1915.
I am looking for any information about how I can investigate this family more. Also information about the Ludar gypsies in Romania and their way of life. Also information about the names - Do I write them correctly or may there be a different spelling?
many thanks.
Pat
