You will find the name Suceava on maps of present-day Romania. It is the name of a city and the county of which it is the capital. If you do a mapquest search you should be able to find it. It is a northerly county of Romania just below Ukraine. It also appears on older maps under the spelling (Polish, German) Suczawa. This area was formerly called Bukovina (the English standard spelling of a place called Bucovina [Romanian], Bukowina [Polish and German], Buchenland [and alternative German form], Bukovyna [transliteration from the Ukrainian Cyrillic] etc.) There is an email list, bukovina-gen, for researchers interested in tracing their roots in this area.

BTW, Northern Bukovina is now in the Chernivetska oblast of the Republic of Ukraine.

Hope this helps. Richard
