You are correct. Becker is a German surname. However, my great grandparents were definately Romanian. Nor were they Hebrew. Because they were practicing Catholics here in the States, I suspect they were members of the Othodox Church in Romania.
They were political refugees who went to the trouble of hiding their past and this has created a brick wall for me today.
Julia raised me, not took care of. I lived with her, not my parents, until I was seven. She told me stories about Romania, Gypsies, why I should never trust a Greek, and how Vasa was a 'horse soldier who fought the Cossaks. (Probably not spelled correctly, but Turks, right?) She also told me Fairy Tales. The one I remember the best is about an Evil King who fell in love with a young villiage woman. She rejected him and he got his revenge by poisoning the villiage well. Sound familiar?
I don't mean to sound defensive about this. It's just that I know they were Romanian. And it is frustrating when people who did not know them tell me they were not Romanian. I'm getting nowhere like this. I need to figure out what the name Becker could have been before they changed it.
But thank you for trying to help, anyway. I really do appreciate you taking the time to write.
