The Harakal part of the family didn't come through Ellis Island... They snuck on aboard a ship and entered the country that way, with no records. (Which makes it difficult to trace with Ellis Island.) I don't know if the Csilog part of the family ever came to the US. The only clue my grandfather had was that it might have been his great grandmother's maiden name, but he wasn't too sure of it... I do know that the Harakals were by Stakcin and Snina in Slovakia, which is (as I understand it.) about 20 miles from the Romanian border, so I think that somewhere around there in Romania would be a good place to check for family. However, I've only been able to find 1 Csilog, and she's living now. I know that Csilog means Shining or Star, and I don't know if that would change if it were Csillag, but my grandfather was clear that it was Csilog.

I appreciate all of your help by the way... This search has been very difficult, since I don't speak or read Slovakian, Hungarian, or Romanian.
