I am searching for any information regarding my ancestors that left Romania at the beginning of the 20th century, circa 1900- 1918. I would like to know when they left, and where exactly in Romania did they come from.
I believe my great grandfather, Petre Moldovan, was a young boy when he arrived in Canada. I know he came with his family, parents, sister(s) (i do not know their names) and his brother, Mihai.
My grandfather,Theodore, now deceased, told me our family left the region of Bucovina because of hostilities with the Russians; killing/stealing cattle. I presume the land which they came from now is part of Ukraine.
My great grandfather, Petre, married a French American from Maine and had several children; Florence (Florentina), Annie (Ana), Elenor(a), Theodore, Johnny (Ionel), and Violet(a), settling in Montreal to which my family lives today.
We lost all contact of our Romanian roots, yet I have made in the last 5 years major efforts in regaining my identity. I feel this is a calling in my soul. I have learned Romanian, travelled on 4 seperate occaisions in the last 2 years and have recently married the most wonderful woman from Western Transylvania.
I will appreciate any help,
Jason Alexander Moldovan
