Julius Tuckerman from Romania
Posted by: Nancy Tuckerman (ID *****7543) Date: August 16, 2003 at 07:05:11

My grandfather, Julius Tuckerman, was born in Iasi, Romania, 23 March 1874. His father, Morris or Maurice, was born in the same city. His mother Roscalie Kane, was born in Siret, Bukovina, which was an Austrian crownland at that time.

I believe the Tuckermans were German nationals who had emigrated to Romania. I think they were Jewish, but have not been able to obtain Julius's birth certificate.

Julius emigrated to the US about 1891, possibly on the ship EMS, which sailed about once a month from Bremen to New York. Have not been able to get passenger lists yet. He may or may not have had a sister and several brothers, but I believe he came to the US alone.

I know more about his doings once he got here, but would love to learn about his (my?)family in Romania. Any/all suggestions welcome!
