Thanks for all the great info!! Especially Alex's description of the country and a little of the history. I would love to find a history book of the people or the country of Romania, if anyone has any suggestions. Yes, Renate, my family name could have been spelled differently, I think. I always spelled it Nietschke, but my cousin spelled it Nitschke - could have easily dropped the "s" or any other letter!! When we American descents tackle names based in other languages, we often mutilate them, huh?! Renate, where do your people come from? Sorry it took so long to respond. I've been on vacation and away from the computer. Thanks again for helping with your info!!
