Just briefly about the meaning of VOIVOD - it is definitely derived from the word “vojvoda” from one of Slavic languages (Croatian, Serbian, Polish, Slovak...). In English/Croatian dictionary “vojvoda” is translated as “duke”. The word comes from ”voj” (battle) and “vodja” (leader). So, “vojvoda” would be “the one that leads the battle”.
Of course, it doesn’t have to mean that your ancestor lead any battle (it could be that nickname became a surname) - but, who knows.
