Just a litle comment.
As you wrote, Gabriel, Covalciuc has som slavish origin (russian but rather ukrainean, i tink).

It is possible the name has a meaning in one of those languages (ukrainean or russian). Try in a dictionary or ask the Ukraine/Russia genealogy forum.
