Covalciuc - history help on name origin
Posted by: Jason Covalcine Date: August 21, 2001 at 10:44:53

My name is Jason Covalcine. I am Romanian by descent. When my great-grandfather came over from Romania, his last name was changed from Covalciuc to Covalcine. If you write the name in incersive you'll see how it is easy to mistake. He lived in Suceava, but was ostracized by his family when he was about 9. His father was a high ranking general or colonel we believe in the Romanian Army. Can anyone out there tell me what Covalcine means in Romanian and where (what part of Romania) it comes from? My great-grandfather, like many others destroyed all documents and photographs on his arrival to the states. My great-grandmother was also from Romania (Dorhoi). Her last name was Cubotari. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
