Hi,
Demeter is a Hungarian name, is the Hungarian version of the Romanian Dumitru.
If Demeter was his first name then it means that they lived somewhere in Transilvania. My mother is a Romanian citizen but with Hungarian nationality. All the family on my mother's side are Hungarian nationality Romanian citizen. This may be the case with your relatives. Also, it is important to mention that at that time, both Romanian ahd Hungarian names were continuously transformed...
