Janice,
Try, http://parizs.tripod.com/romania/
This is a site that lists the 9 historical municipalities of Romania. Then each municipality is broken down into counties, with names of cities and towns. Chiragi wasn't listed but, this afternoon, I tried
www.jewishgen.org/shtetlseeker/loctown.htm
and was successful. I had to use map coordinates with Constanta and Mangalia area and, bingo! Not bad for over 20 years of searching! Now I need to find the place in Russia.
On the Military papers it states Regiment 1 Genue,or Genui, soldier no. 1589.
Throughout there are many readable signitures of the commanders that signed it. It would seem so simple to track, if we only knew where. I did see a site "Virtual Library Museum" that had pictures of the uniforms around my time period posted.(we have a picture of my Grandpa) I emailed for info, and I'm still waiting. Has to be near 4 mon. now. Sorry this is long but now I know that there is another person out there, maybe we'll stumble on to something. __________Jacquie
