Thank you for the information.It was very interesting.Todor Szakacs@Torrington,Conn.was especially interesting.My grandfather said he was sponsered by his second cousin and went to live with him in Torrington after arriving here.They did not get along and my grandfather left.He never spoke anymore about his cousin and never had any further contact.However,looking at the Ellis Island database,I did not find the Janos from Sard,nor did I find any Janos of the age my grandfather should have been(14 to 18)when he arrived.In fact,we are guessing that he came in at Ellis Island;he may have entered at another port.My aunt thinks that the Romanian version of the surname was "Socaciu".Is that a possibility?Would that spelling be pronounced "Sokotch"?-Also,what is the pronunciation of "Sard"?I do'nt mean to burden you and -again Thank yu for the previous information.
