i can't tell you for sure, there are many theories. but the most accepted ones say that either they came from the same place as the romans, either their culture was paved over by the romans roughly 2000 years ago. today, they are a mix or roman, slavic, german, and some hungarian, but immigration is making the list grow longer. hope this is a satisfying answer.
