The names of some of my Romanian relatives/ancestors are sometimes spelled in Romanian legal records (e.g., birth certificates) with a final "u" at the end. For example, the name Fisher Brantz sometimes is spelled Fisheru Brantzu. What does the "u" signify? Was it added to "Romanianize" a foreign name?
I would appreciate any insights on this question.
