Hello,
Glad to read your message.
Cernauti is the old name of Tchernowitcz, and today located in Bucovina, Ukraina.
Before 1940, Cernauti did belong to Romania (this is why my message was posted in this forum).
Concerning the Menga surnames, they are carried (to my knowledge) by people who are coming from three origins:
- from Romania (Cernauti before 1900) : my family - in France and Sweden
- from Italy : some of the "italian" Menga are living in Italy, some immigrated to the States, some of them lived in South of France,..
- from Afrika : for example, the first poor guy to have been contamined by the Ebola virus was named Menga (!).
If you tell me that your husband has italian origins, if must be related to the second.
Did you know that a brazilian tennis champion woman is named Menga, also ?
Cordially.
Herve Menga (from Versailles, France).
