Dear all Rollo's
My name is tom Routledge and i run the website www.everymansprey.com and i research the Routledge name.
The help i'm asking for is i'm trying to find a Routledge earlier than Simon de Routluge in 1433 in Hawick. The earlier contestants i have are Roulouche in the early 1360's which are found only 20 mile away from Hawick.
The reason why i ask you Rollo's for help is the following

"The name in ancient times was sometimes written Rolloche, and sometimes Rowok, and is the same as Rollock. Robert Rolloche obtained from King David II. charters of some property in Perth, and of the lands of Threepwood, Lanarkshire,"

I dont understand how you can get from Rollo to Rolloche?

I have viewed the original source and the the name is spelt as;

Roberti Rouloche
Roberti Roull
Roberti Ruloche
Roberti Roulouche

Now i'm not questioning your clans history i'm just a little confused as to how you can go from Rollo to adding a hard sound at the end of it to Rollo again.

Also in 1474 i have found a well know De Routluge being spelt as a De Rouluch.

So my question is to you Rollo's, is this Rouloche where the Routledges came from, or is the Rouloche not a Rollo and an earlier Routledge?

Thank you for you help and if anyone knows a Rollo expert i could talk to i would ge very greatful.

Tom Routledge
