Hi Ken Thanks for the advice. I will certainly look in the Ballymoney, Londonderry, Tyrone etc records when I get a chance, although my instincts tell me otherwise. While I'm aware that naming patterns were adhered too fairly strictly in past times, I suppose the name Benjamin could have come from the mother's family. I've been assuming that my Rollestons were Presbyterian because of various marriage certificates I've obtained so far, but the churches concerned could easily have been those of the spouse. As you probably know, the Church of Ireland never did particulary good business in Ulster, compared to the Dissenting churches, although many paid lip service to it in order to improve their employment or social prospects. I've been told by a distant cousin that my Rollestons once had a fair bit of money and were granted various parcels of land including some around Belfast, possibly as a reward for services to King William III in the Wiliamite Wars, but I've not yet seen any evidence of this. I've also been told that another distant cousin still owns a chalk quarry in Cornwall which was apparently part of these land grants. I will let you know if/when I am able to come up with something more conclusive. All the best. Fiona McDonald Newtownards, Co Down Notify Administrator about this message?
