Rogers(Rodgers)/Goss Family Elbert/Wilkes County, Georgia
In the book, Historical Collections of the Georgia chapters, Daughters of the American Revolution, for Elbert County, Georgia.I found the following:
Rogers, William-Page 83-85-dec'd. Inventory and returns 1807-1808. Mary Rogers, Admx.
Rogers, William- Page 197- Est. Returns for 1811. Mary Rogers, Admx, oath signed Mary Bragg. Page 241-Returns for 1811, signed Mrs. Mary Bragg, Admx.
Does anyone know the parents/family of this William Rogers?
(Elbert County was originally Wilkes County so some info. might be there.I found some Wilkes records for a William Rogers, d. 1795 but this might be a relative.) There is a William Rogers on the 1805 GA land lottery list.
Due to the 1811 entry, I believe Mary is Mary "Polly" Goss (daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Hamilton Goss).Polly Rogers m. William S. Bragg on 24 Feb. 1808.
The will of Elizabeth Hamilton Goss dated 1815 includes, Mary Bragg, John W. Rodgers and Isham G. Rodgers.(I am assuming from the above that these are the sons of Mary "Polly.")My ancestor isIsham G. Rodgers. He married Sarah "Sally" Goss on 31 Aug 1825.Sarah was the daughter of Mary's brother Horatio J. Goss (Some researchers have Isham married to Mary's sister Sarah, but the dates make this impossible as that Sarah d. abt. 1809.)
I found Isham on the 1830 and 1840 Elbert County census. He then leaves his family during the 1840's.I found an Isham living in Paulding county, GA with a new family in 1850 but don't know if this is my person or not.I didn't find him again until the 1870 census, where he is living in Wilkes Cty. at the farm of his neice.Delana/Delaney Adams (daughter of John W. Rodgers.) He is said on this census to be 66 (b. 1804.)
John W. Rodgers was b. abt. 1802 and later moved to Arkansas.
The 1850 census shows Isham's wife Sarah living by her father in Elbert Cty. with 3 kids, sons J. H. and M, and daughter S.A.I don't know what happened to J. H. or if they had any children before him.M. is Micajah Rodgers killed in the Civil War in 1862.In his service file Sarah states that her husband (not named) is still living but has not helped the family out in 14 years (abt. 1848.) Daughter S. A. is my ancestor Sarah Ann who married William J. Crow and James Page in Hart County. She died sometime bet. 1880-1900.
Please let me know if you have any info. on this family.I would like to know who William's parents were, where Isham was bet. 1848-1870, and who son J.H. might have been.Thank you.
