Rogeres were Normans: FitzRogers to Rogers?
Hello all,
In my line some spelled it as Rogers and some as Rodgers. Anyway, someone shared some info with me that took my Rodgers/Rogers line back to the 1300s. Those fist two or three generations spelled their name as FitzRogers or Fitzrogers. I was told this "Fitz" in front of a name was sort of like a sign of Norman nobility like "von" is in German. Is that true? Does anyone know anything about this? Interesting to learn one is of Norman descent. Also, if so, I wonder why they dropped the "Ftiz" from the front of the name?
Thanks,
Dave
