Rogers Brothers William, Joseph Hale, JOHN, and Barnett of Bryan(t)'s Station KY
There is so much reliance on previously published accounts when this family is considered, that little seems to have been added or considered even though there are so many now easily accessible sources that were previously overlooked when those early articles were published.
It seems that the father of these brothers, Joseph Rogers of Orange and Culpeper Cos., Virginia was not married to a daughter of Thomas and Mary Burgess, but it was his son Joseph Hale Rogers who was married to Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Burgess and Mary Warren.Just check out the 1792 estate settlement of Thomas Burgess in Pittsylvania County.
Regarding the brother John who is often said to be John Rogers of Scott Co., Kentucky, it seems more likely that the brother John was the John Rogers who was settled on David's Branch of the North Fork of Elkhorn Creek (just five miles or so from Bryan(t)'s Station, and who was definitely there when Joseph Hale Rogers and Barnett Rogers were settled near that early station.A niece of these men claimed that the brother John came with the other brothers to this part of Kentucky at an early date (just check out the Kentucky Papers of the Draper Manuscripts).
Also, it seems likely that this John Rogers was the man with the same name who married Anne Lewis in St James Northam Parish, Goochland Co, Virginia in 1767, and Elizabeth Epperson there in 1771.Both women had ties to families who settled in the Fayette County, KY area, especially Epperson whose first cousins surnamed Martin were married into the Bryan(t) family itself. This John advertised and sold his mill and stills on David's Branch in 1806, and died there 1809.His widow Elizabeth was enumerated in the 1810 Franklin Co., Kentucky census.
Is this John Rogers the man of the same name who was a lieutenant under his cousin General George Rogers Clark in the Illinois campaign?John's brother Barnett was also a lieutenant in the early Kentucky militia.
I would enjoy hearing from anyone trying to bring a fresh perspective to this family.
