Janice,
Unfortunately, with today's technology, women can trace only their female line through DNA.In other words, you can be tested to determine your mother, her mother, her mother, etc.It will not help you to find your male line.Men, on the other hand, can be tested for both their direct male line and their direct female line.I would be happy to go into more detail as to why this is so in e-mail if you wish.
All is not lost.If you want to trace your Rogers line through DNA you have to convince a Rogers uncle (your mother's brothers), or cousin (sons of your mother's brothers) to get a Y chromosome DNA test. If your mother did not have any brothers, hopefully you can identify second or third Rogers cousins. Even male Rogers cousins as distant as tenth cousins would probably serve your purposes. In other words, you need to find a direct male descendant of your mother's father, your mother's grandfather Rogers, his father, etc.
I hope this is not too confusing.I am not a scientist and as I said in my posting, I am not in the DNA business. The more Rogers DNA tests done, the more all of us will know.
