WasGGGrandma BLACK SHEEPof theRogers family?
My great, great grandmother was Susannah Rogers Kerry, b. 1793,m. 1811,immigrated to Canada 1812,widowed in 1838 and died 1868 in Lambton Co, ON. I know only that her mother's name was Mary.
Susannah and William Kerry of Portsmouth married against the wishes of both parental families and were thereafter declared "dead to the family". Some say Susannah was a maiden of aristocratic rank from London and Wm. a commoner. We know he was a common laborer in the shipyards; some in the family declare she was a "gypsy".
They arrived in Canada to find England and the US at war. Devout Baptists, they settled down and raised a family of 8 or 9 well educated, highly respected citizens who became Careys in their new homeland.
Many North American descendants dearly wish to find their Rogers and Kerry/Carey roots.
