There are dozens if not over 100 descendants of this Charles Roff now living in Australia. My wife, Toni-Ann Roff is his gggggranddaughter.
Her father was Charles Robert Roff (b Melbourne 1920) to Charles (b Melb 1900) to Robert (b Melb 1864) to George Henry (probably b England or en route to Australia abt 1842) who was (to my present knowledge) the son of Charles of Chipping Norton's 4th child and 2nd son Robert (b 1810, m 1835 Mary Ann Cesar - or Ceasar or Ceaser - at St Anne, Soho, Westminster, London).
I agree that Charles married in 1797 Sarah Summerton (b 1776) and their known children to me were Anne (b 1799), Phebe (1802), Charles (1806) (?m 1830 ?), Thomas (1808), Robert (above), Dorcas (1811), Priscilla (1813, m 1835 Abraham Hathaway) and John (1816). Most of this information comes from the IGI indexes.
I have (not exhaustive) information of the Australian descendants of Robert Roff and Mary Ann Ceasar. Their presumed first child was Robert William Roff (b c. 1837) who married 1864 in Melbourne Mary Ann Turvey, followed by Mary Ann (b c. 1839) who died in South Australia aged 10 in 1849, George Henry (above), and the rest who were all born in South Australia - Thomas (1844 - 1909, m 1867 Anna Maria Marwood, any children as yet unknown), then all the rest died in infancy - Julius, John, Sarah Summerton, Louisa Ann, Alfred, Arthur Frederick.
The family has a history of repeating names and some of these have known connections to Charles of Chipping Norton, his wife and their children so maybe some of the other names have connections to earlier family members I do not yet know. The Robert above who married Turvey had childrens' names Robert Thomas, Elizabeth Sarah, Anna Maria, Arthur Frederick, William Henry, George Alfred, Sarah Jane, Dorcas Adeline, John, George James and Henry Frederick. (Of these, most died in infancy. Anna Maria married in Melbourne and had many children. I do not know what became of the last 2 boys, George James and Henry Frederick.)
I would love to discover what became of Charles' other descendants. It seems at least one went to America and others possibly to Canada?? My wife's father used to say that one of the Roffs in America started up the first "pony express". Could this be?
Thank you to Peter for posting up this information on the web. I hope we can all stimulate the finding of more Roff(e) connections.
