The information Jonathan posted was about my grandmother. her name was Kate Roemer born Oct. 20, 1871 in Orland, Ill. Her mother and father's name were Jacob and Emma Roemer. This information is on a marriage certificate I have. Kate had a son named Walter Roemer born in Joliet, Ill on Aug. 28, 1890. She was not married at the time. I have heard how this come about from an aunt and an uncle but I am not sure if it is correct. Kate married Peter Johannsen in orland, Ill on Dec. 12, 1893. They left the Orland and Joliet area in 1906. They had seven children including Walter. They came by train with two covered wagons, two teams of horses and all their belongings to Hutchinson, Kansas. They began their journey west. They had four more children before they homesteaded in Meade, Kansas in 1910. My mother, Katie Johannsen was born in the new home on July 27, 1911. She is the only living child and is 92 years old. She is in a nursing home and has dementia so I have no one to tell me anything about my Grandmother. I hope this will be of some information that you can relate to. If so please let me know. Sorry for the length of this post but thus far I've seen little to no information and any at all makes me very excited.
