Roelf and Roelfs
Hello all,
My name is Bob (Robert) Roelf, and I'm starting to research the Iowa/Illinois based Roelfs family. By the way, the more common older spelling of my last name is Roelfs rather than just Roelf.
My great grand father Detert Roelfs) was born in 1848 in the Ostfriesland area of Germany. He married Harmina DeWeerdt and they came to American in about 1882 and settled in German Valley, Illinois. In about 1900 they moved to Butler County, Iowa where they farmed and raised a family.
One of their sons was named Henry Roelfs. Henry was born in German Valley but spent his adult life in Butler County, Iowa. He married Ella Kammeyer in 1910 and they had eight children. One of Henry and Ella's sons, Kermit, is my father. My father and mother settled in Clarence, Iowa, and I've spent my adult life in Iowa City, Iowa.
My branch of the Roelfs family may have no connection to the paths the rest of you are following. But, if there is some common interst, please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll try to provide you with more information. It's always nice to know there are more Roelfs running around here and there.
