Hello there,
RODWELL: Meaning of Surname
Don't know if this helps but some years ago on a family
holiday in Dorset we visited the part of Weymouth called
Rodwell, inc. it's own pub, the Rodwell Arms!
I visited the local library and spoke to the librarian who
showed me some old books on local history. They said that the name Rodwell was old English for "reedy stream".

This would be in keeping with the water connection.
Hope it helps.
Best wishes
Ron Rodwell
Buckhurst Hill
Essex
England.
