My ancestor, Margaret Ann Roddy b.May 9-29, 1831 in, was Mary Adaline's sister. Her father and mother were William Roddy and Martha Childress. According to Erma Jo Housewright, a noted genealogist in Cherokee County, Texas, Margaret (Peggy) Ann's father was William Marion Roddy b. Tenn. c. 1801. He married Martha Childress, daughter of James Childress born in Virginia in 1776,who was the son of William Childress born 1750 in Henrico Co., Virginia. He left a will and was a Revolutionary War pensioner. Martha Childress was born in South Carolina c. 1805. She and William Roddy were married in Knox Co. Tenn. January 15,1822. They lived in Monroe County, Tenn. (formerly Knox Co.)in the 1830 census and in Walker Co., Georgia in the 1840-1850 census. After Martha's death, William Marion Roddy married the widow Elizabeth Cavender. They had 4 girls: Sarah C., Martha E., Francis & Emily. Margaret Ann (Peggy) and Mary Ann (Polly) were the daughters of Martha Childress. Margaret Ann married Isaac Tipton in Walker Co., Georgia in 1850-51. They lived in Cherokee County, Texas ca. 1855-1881. Margaret Ann lived on in Cherokee Co. until her death May 28, 1891. She is buried in Myrtle Springs Cemetery next to Isaac Tipton, her husband. na
