I have a few John Roddy's in my tree, but none that match that birth time. I have a John Earle Roddy born 1826,and a John Bayliss Roddy born 1869. Ofcoarse my information has gaps. If you can find a John Roddy who came from Cork County, Ireland in 1780, than were probably distantly related. I hope your search for information goes well.
Thanks
