Dear ms. Hibner:
i have been researching the ancestryof james zh. rockwood for 4 years.the father of James H., abel herbert, Elijah(JR.) and sophia rockwood was Elijah rockwood born@ 1790 Canada, and died 1883 in Canada.Abel herbert and his siblings's mother is unknown, but we know she and Elijah(Sr.) were wed in 1805 in canada.
One of his brothers was Abel Herbert Rockwood born:born May 13, 1809 New York.he died @1885 in Long Rapids, alpena, Michigan.
Your ancestor Sophia "Fye" was one of his children.Abel married Elizabeth Jane Knapp(b. 12may 1813 NY or Canada, and she died 14 Aug. 1866), on 26 Oct. 1833 Leeds County, Ontario, Canada.

It is sure a small world. I just heard yesterday from a Mark Rockwood who is researching his grandfather Byron James Rockwood, the son of George Rockwood( who was married to Kezia(Kesia) Holebrook or Colnurn(or colborn) whom he wed in 1851 at Greenbush,Ontario,Canada).mark seem to think that george rockwood was the son of Elijah (Sr.)

However, none of the records I have seen in Canada show him as his son. it is possible that George may have been the son of Elijah(Sr.) and his second wife Phoebe Rockwood whom he married in 1834, or he may have been the son of Elijah(Jr.) and spouse.

One thing I have found out is that the Rockwoods were English.
I would very much like to share informtion I have on the Rockwoods in Elijah Rockwood's line with you.
