Stanley Pickett Rockwell co invented the Rockwell Hardness Tester in 1914 with inventer Hugh M. Rockwell while both were affliated with the New Departure Manufacturing Company in Bristol, Ct. The patent was issued in 1919. Hugh was the son of Albert F. Rockwell, founder and President of New Departure. Stanley and Hugh were not directly related. Stanley was born in New Britain, CT. in 1886 and died in Middletown, CT. in 1940. Stanley was a metallurgist and had a heat treating Co. (The Stanley P. Rockwell Co.) in Hartford, CT.
