The death cert. is IMPORTANT and you should make every effort to obtain a copy. Nellie is PROBABLY a short form of Eleanor. If she was born in late 1890's to Bart. and wife you should be able to locate them on the 1900 Federal Census of NY. In addition,you should find her on 1910,1920 and 1930 census. I don't know where you live but there are many regional centers in US that have these census'. I have list. let me know which city/town you live in.What was their religion?Churches are a wonderful source of info and NYC has/had alot of churches.
