Rocheleau/Barrett Connection?

Hi Kathy,
The only connection I can find with all the surnames used by my gg grandmother is that all can translate to rock or stone.
She used these:
1. Rochelaud/Rocheleau/Rochelot
2. Lapierre
3. Larocque
4. Barrette
5. Stone (her death record)
"La" translates to "the".
"Pierre" translates to "stone".
"Roc" translates to "rock".
"Roche" translates to "rock, boulder, or stone".
"Barriere" translates to "barrier or obstacle".
"Barrette" translates to "biretta, cardinal's cap, hair-slide, or spray".
I can only surmise that the Barrette (referring to an obstacle) may have come about because of some rocky area that blocked the way.I've always been stumped by this one and have never seen a valid explanation.
I've also read (without proof cited) that many Barrettes came from the Richelieu Valley and it became a distorted dit nom for the Barrettes. However, Tanguay shows that Rocheleau was a valid name way back.
