The name Rocha has varied roots. One origin is Portuguese. It is pronounced Ho sha...and means boulder.Of course there were not many Portuguese who went to the areas of Guanajuato or Michoacan (where my family came from during the Revolucion), however, there were many Portuguese owned slaves who did flee to the coastal areas and took up domicile with our indigenous nations. In Michoacan, parts of jalisco we are of the Pur'epecha nation or commonly known as the Tarasco people.Guanajuato has numerous native nations but the Otomi are quite prevalent.
The Rocha's of Michocan show distinct traits that could be directly connected to African ancestry.Within my father's family alone some had very straight black indian hair and features while other siblings had wider facial features and very curly, wiry hair. Our ancestry reaches deep into indigenism from both our Indian and AFrican raices.
