Have you requested his social security number application from the Social Security Administration yet? I was able to find his Social Security Death Index record on Genealogy.com (They list his DOB as 25 Jan 1913, and Date of death as 11 Jan 1990). From the home page, click on SEARCH and type in his name, date of birth and death. It'll print the request letter for you automatically so you can mail it. The SS application will tell you his parents names and place of work.
