Hello, Cheryl. We are having a bit of trouble with our Robys, but they don't seem to have changed their names. My people were French and I was told that there might be a connection to a Joseph Roby who descended from a titled Pierre Roby in France. But I can't find the St. Giles church in Canada that has the records of these Robys. If indeed they shortened their names, perhaps it was because of the terror in France during the revolution when Robespierre had fallen. It would be a kick in the pants for my father's family Manigold, who fought against Robespierre, only to know that a Manigold married one. Isn't family history interesting? Now you have me curious. But there was a book written in French by a man of the cloth, and it suppossedly mentions the French Robys. If you want the name of that book, and a bit more that I have, let me know at ahallock@zianet.com and I'll look it up
