Obituary:
Donald Carl Anderson joyfully left his earthly life in the company of angels in Turlock, CA at the age of 80. He was born in San Francisco to Albert and Ethel Anderson and resided in Colma and South San Francisco where he attended High School. In 1945 he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served both active and reserve before being honorably discharged in 1954. In 1950 he married Jennie Hafner of Phoenix, AZ. He moved his family to Santa Clara in 1963 where they lived for 31 years. In 1994 he and his wife retired to Modesto.
Don was a proud dues-paying member of Operating Engineers Local #3 for 42 years and a member of VFW Post 3199. He was a member of IOOF Golden West Lodge #322 of San Francisco and he especially enjoyed his membership in the Old Fishermen's Club of Modesto.
Donald said goodbye to the mother of his children, Jennie Anderson of Modesto, daughters Ruth Tompkins (David Brace) of Ceres and Joan Anderson Hatch (Lee) of Turlock. He was preceded in death by his son, Donald, Jr. of Santa Clara in 2002. Grandpa leaves behind grandsons, Christopher Macaulay-Robinson of Vacaville, Timothy Macaulay-Robinson, of Modesto, Andrew Macaulay-Robinson (Melissa) and great-grandbaby, Ava Grace of Olympia, WA. Grandsons Grant and Bennet Tompkins and Adam and Michael Brace of Ceres are also devastated by the loss of their "Poopa."
Donald is survived by his youngest brother, Richard Anderson of Pioneer, extended family, Earl Gilmore of Lancaster, Marjorie Anderson of Livermore and Keely Shuper Anderson of Santa Clara. Uncle Don was so very proud of his numerous nieces and nephews who will also miss him.
He deeply mourned the passing of brothers Bill, Charles, twin brother, Ronald (Shirley), Ralph (Cookie), his only sister, Barbara Gilmore, sister-in-law, Sandra Anderson, and five of his nieces and nephews.
Committal Service will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 1500 Mission Road, Colma, CA, Thursday, September 25, at 3:00 p.m.
Don’s life was his large extended family and circle of friends. As he wished, a special gathering for fellowship and remembrance will be Saturday, September 27, 12:00 noon at his "River House." Nothing is going to please him more than to see his family and friends enjoying each others company and sharing how we are part of his "Circle of Life." Remembrances may be made to Community Hospice Foundation, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356.
