I, too am a Roberts from Alabama. My father, Calvin B. Roberts, and his immediate family came from the Anniston/Oxford and Weedowee areas,(Randolph and Calhoun Counties)--my grandfather was Oscar Roberts and he married: Arbie Lee Reaves on 01-26-13).As far as I can tell, my grandfather's grandfather was a Reuben Roberts who lived in Gerogia.Reuben was married to a woman named Nancy.I do not know what Nancy's maiden name was or the year they married.Reuben and Nancy Roberts had seven children: John, Luke, James Lafayette (my grandfather's father) William Jackson, Reuben Jackson--daughters: Susan Roberts Odom, and Martha Ann Roberts Thomas. Reuben and his family lived in Georgia, but just how the members of the family (or some of them) came to migrate to Alabama is not clear as of yet.
I did find out (on line) that Luke Roberts and Martha Ann Thomas had gone to court because of a dispute over their father's will. The hearing was held in Macon in the State Supreme Court of Georgia, in the year 1861.
If you would care for a list of my father's siblings please contact me at my e-mail address [email protected] and I will be happy to give you that information.
Although this has been a fun journey, it also has been a bit frustrating because of the "dead-ends" I've encountered along the way; but I suppose that's to be expected.
I do hope that this will help you in some way with your endeavors!!
Sincerely,
Sheila D. Roberts-Neal
