John, after your posting re Hampton Lee Powell, I must say that I'm not sure about your Roberts Connections as I gave them in my response. Your last posting changed my earlier information.
I find Hampton L. Powell in the 1900 DeKalb County census with wife Martha M,b. Jul 1875, AL, and a daughter, Horry? L, b. Feb 1898, not in the 1910 census, but in the 1920 Jefferson County, AL census with wife Mattie, 45,children, Horry L.,21, Maynard E.,19, Mattie, 15, and Kimbey?, 12, dau. Do you have these children in your file and which is your grandmother?
The census records have some interesting entries. The 1880 Cherokee County census has three Roberts,#48 Allen, 27, wife,Lula, three children; #49 Allen, 29, wife Emma, sons, William,3, and John,1.; and #50 John, 24, wife, Sudie.
Two Allen's side by side in the census looked odd, but the fourth child of James Ednund and Elamine Palmer Roberts was William Pinkey Roberts, wife Sarah Emma Stewart, and their two older sons were William Edmond,b. 1877, and John Franklin, b. 1879. The census taker made a mistake.
Would like you family info to add to my database.
Do you have a genealogy program? I have RootsMagic, the best.
