The results of a DNA test of a descendant of the Robbins family of Bell Co., KY are in! Sample 188604 is available for comparison to the results to other Robbins/Robins families at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Robins/default.aspx?section=yresults (this URL may wrap to a second line in this post).

The Bell Co., KY, Robbins family is descended from James and Martha (Brothers) Robbins of Randolph Co., NC. The sample has Y chromosome marker DYS458=20 which is indicative of descent from Richard Robbins/Robins, b. c1710, who resided in Rowan (now Randolph) Co., NC. I know of no citation of documents that support identifying James Robbins as a son of Richard, but now we at least have DNA evidence to add credibility to this undocumented genealogy.

And now the unpopular report: Richard is not from Wales. You can see in the results chart at the above URL that his descendants are close matches to descendants of Daniel Robins/Robinson, b c1627 in Scotland, d. c1714 in New Jersey. Daniel's grandson Joseph Robbins Jr made his will in 1754 when living in Rowan (now Randolph) Co., NC - this will was witnessed by Richard Robins. See also message 3457 in this forum. From the DNA and known circumstances Richard Robbins/Robins is likely another grandson of Daniel but the connection is not yet documented. I am convinced the Welsh Isaac parentage is fiction.
