James MANSER and Amy ROBARDS (it is spelled thus on the marriage record) were married in Northiam, Sussex 16 May 1821. He was a baker. They had at least four children baptized in Northiam: James 1823, Alfred 1829, Unnamed daughter (Amy or Caroline?) 1821, William 1832. These baptisms correlate with the names and approximate birthdates I have from their New York records. Then Frederick R. (R for Robert or Robards possibly), s/o James (a baker) & Amy, was baptized 18 Sep 1835 in Battle Sussex. There are no other Battle records on the family. James, Amy, and their children left for New York in 1839 and later lived in Westchester County, NY. James (Senior) was listed in the 1860 U.S. Census as being 60 years old, so I am looking for a 1795-1803 birth. The researcher who did the work for me in East Sussex believes (unproven as yet) that James is a son of James and Mary (ROOTES) Manser who were responsible, between 1790 and 1804, for most of the Manser baptisms in Northiam parish. Another possibility is that James is a grandson of the same couple, through James MANSER and Hannah LEAVER.
I am interested in the parents of James Manser and Amy Robards. I have much information on their descendants.
