Has anyone discovered what spelling might have been used for ROAT early on? Our interest is in finding the father of Henry ROAT b. 1789 Columbia Co. NY. We find the name as ROAT, ROTE, ROOT... Any speculation that the early DeGroot might come into play? and/or RAUT? RODE?
