Philemon and Jesse Roark / O’Roark of Rockingham Co., VA

I am looking for the parents of Jesse Eugene O’Roark who was born 18 Sep 1804 in Rockingham and died 07 Nov 1888 at Singer’s Glen, RCV. He married Elizabeth Jacobs b. 06 Mar 1822; d. 17 Oct 1880 (dau. of Thomas and Malinda [Unknown] Jacobs) on 23 Sep 1846 in Rockingham County. Jesse is buried in the Brush Brethren Church Cemetery, Rockingham Co., VA along with his wife Elizabeth, daughter Mary, and mother-in-law Malinda Jacobs.

Jesse shows up in the 1850 RCV census as Jesse O’Rick and in the subsequent 1860-1880 RCV censuses as Jesse O’Roark, Jesse and Elizabeth had 9 children: Malinda Jane, Amanda (m. George F. Airey), Mary C., John, Richard (m. Mary Jane Unknown), Elizabeth, Sarah, Annie (my great-grandmother m. Rollie Lee Spitzer), and Charles M. (m. Eliza E. Derror/Derrow).

Family history has it that we are connected to Philemon O’Roark, but I don’t know how. Could my Jesse Eugene O’Roark be the son of Philemon O’Roark, or would he likely be the grandson of Philemon? Or could family history be wrong and is he connected to another line altogether? Any and all guidance and help would be very much appreciated!!!

Cheers,
Anne Lamden
