Hello, I am seeking an image, either a photograph or painting/drawing of Mrs. Marcus Lafayette Bell [nee' Juliet Roane [1834 - ?], as a young woman. I have an opportunity to purchase two portraits of a man and woman, one of which is supposed to be Juliet Roane Bell. The other portrait is thought to be her husband, Marcus L. Bell, as a young man. They were definitely painted by Henry Byrd, a well known Arkansas portrait painter who was actively painting in Arkansas between 1841 and 1866.

The museum already has a post Civil War portrait of Juliet, and a pre Civil War portrait of Mr. Bell. However, they are shown as older individuals. And I only see a slight resemblance to the these new portraits which depict young adults.

Oh yes, I am the Deputy Director and Chief Curator of the State museum in Arkansas. Our primary focus of collecting is Arkansas art, both historic and modern. Thus my interest in the portraits.

Please feel free to email or phone me if you would care to share information. I will be happy to send images of the Bell portraits upon request.

Thanks again.
