Rev. John Roan was a "new light" Presby. Divine and educator. He got into trouble with "Old Siders" in Va.. and returned to Pa. Lived near Derry In Lancaster [later it may have been in Dauphin because he was a preacher at both Paxton Twp [Harrisburg] and Derry. He is buried in theold Derry churchyard. He tutored Wm. Graham of Paxton prep. to his enrollment at Princeton. Then he prepard himn for ministry. Graham then called to Va. where he founde what would later become Wash. & Lee Univ. If you have access to Lexis, search "Archibald Roane" [John's nephew] where there is a good deal on the family. John came from n. Ireland as I recall. See: McAlarney, Mathias Wilson, The History of the Sesquicentennial of Paxtang Church, Harrisburg, Harrisburg Publishing Company,1890: it contains soemn of Rev. Roan's marriages etc.
